Welcome! I am Dr. Jamie Showers. I grew up next door to Jefferson City in Holts Summit, and I attended Jefferson City High School where I played varsity basketball as a Lady Jay. I still on occasion play a little basketball and often help my husband with coaching basketball teams. I enjoy running local 5Ks and participating in half marathons. My husband, Bobby Showers, and I have two beautiful daughters, Madeline and Ella. We enjoy spending our weekends coaching local basketball teams, supporting local sports, and attending MU basketball and football games. We are also fortunate that our families live close by, so we can enjoy quality time with them. 

Following high school, I played college basketball and completed two years of undergraduate work at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. Afterward, I transferred to the University of Missouri – Columbia, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating Summa Cum Laude as the valedictorian of my class. I practiced as a Registered Nurse at both St. Mary’s Health Center and Boone Hospital Center, where I gained nursing experience in medical, surgical, operating room, and neonatal intensive care.

Following my nursing career, I enrolled at Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, Missouri, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and a Doctorate of Chiropractic, again graduating Summa Cum Laude as the valedictorian of my class. My internship experience in chiropractic school included treating disabled veterans at a local veterans’ hospital and working in an obstetrics and gynecology clinic where I treated pregnant women with musculoskeletal problems.

I have completed postgraduate work in myofascial release, temporomandibular rehabilitation, and the treatment of pediatric and pregnancy patients. I have also received acupuncture training through Acupuncture Society of America, an affiliate of Logan College of Chiropractic, and I am board certified in acupuncture, meridian therapy, and acupressure.

Following graduation from Logan College of Chiropractic, I returned to Jefferson City and began my chiropractic practice. My chiropractic experiences and nursing background have allowed me to better understand patient problems and to provide nurturing and effective treatment. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to improve the health and wellbeing of so many people naturally, and I look forward to helping you!

Dr. Laura Buschjost

My name is Dr. Laura Buschjost. I am a proud Jefferson City native who attended Jefferson City High School. I moved on to Truman University in Kirksville, Missouri and then to Lincoln University in Jefferson City. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, Missouri. Then continued at Logan College, graduating in April 2002 with my Doctorate of Chiropractic.

I eventually moved to Indianola, Iowa and opened Drees Family & Sports Chiropractic. I made Iowa my home for 16 years. During that time I enjoyed the small community, becoming president of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, president of Rotary Club of Indianola, and active in many other committees. I also enjoyed instructing classes in yoga, barre, spinning, and boot camp at our local gym, Fusion Fitness.

Today, I live locally in Jefferson City after joining Vitality Chiropractic (Formerly Showers Chiropractic) as a part owner in November 2019. My triplet boys, Brodie, Bane, and Brock and I, feel fortunate to now live near my family and are thankful we can spend quality time together on a regular basis. I am now married to a former high school sweetheart, John Buschjost. John has 3 children himself, Lexi, Maddox, and Jaxon. I enjoy the outdoors, exercise, reading, and baking. One of my biggest accomplishments has been the ability to run 14 full Marathons and several Half Marathons, and I hope to continue running Marathons in the coming years.

Chiropractic has given me the capability to heal and improve so many people’s lives over the years. I love the relationships I have formed with patients who trust me to give them my best treatment. Chiropractic gives me fulfillment and nothing is better than knowing I have helped someone to naturally heal and allow their body to maintain optimal health!

Dr. Darek Funk

Doctorate of Chiropractic

Welcome! I am Dr. Darek Funk. I made Jefferson City my home and joined Vitality Chiropractic (formerly Showers Chiropractic) in September of 2016. I am originally from a small town in Seneca, Kansas so making the move to Jefferson City did not seem too far from home. I have found it easy to continue to enjoy my hobbies of traveling, exercising, kayaking, and camping in Jefferson City and the surrounding areas.

Following graduation from high school, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Kansas State University and then continued my education at Cleveland College of Chiropractic in Kansas City. After graduating in 2014 with my Doctorate of Chiropractic, I returned home where I practiced chiropractic for 2 years. When my significant other, Kally, accepted a respiratory therapy position near the area I began my search for a clinic nearby. 

I chose Vitality Chiropractic because I found that Dr. Showers’ passion for her patients, gentle style of treatment, and integrative approach closely matched my personal and professional ideals. I am advanced certified in gentle, low force adjusting techniques, specifically Activator Method, but also practice traditional chiropractic care. Additional treatments I offer include muscle work, kinesiotaping, and therapeutic exercise to improve patient care and outcomes.

I am excited to be in Jefferson City and at Vitality Chiropractic and look forward to serving this community.
